Research shows many wonderful benefits of exposure to music in young children in the areas of cognitive, physical, social and emotional development. Come and join the musical fun with Ms. Lindsay and friends! Click on the Music Registration link below, and remit registration form and payment to the preschool office.
Children learn best through play, so in our first musical unit, we will ignite your child’s imagination as we spin like tops, jump like jack-in-the-boxes, and roll like balls. We will explore musical concepts such as pitch (high and low singing), glissando (vocal glides), and accelerando (going faster and faster) when we play on our musical seesaws, slides, and trains. Your child will never look at a playground the same way again!
Put on your overalls and boots — It’s time to visit the farm! We will waddle like ducks, moo like cows, go on a hay ride, and listen to the musical wind blowing in the corn. As we play, sing, and dance, we will strengthen our fine and gross motor skills, explore timbre, and so much more. Get ready to discover all there is to see, hear, and do Around the Farm!
What’s your child’s favorite dance? What’s his favorite animal? What’s her favorite instrument or song? In Animals a-Dancing, your children will answer these questions, discover their preferences, and become more self-aware in the process. Along this journey of self-discovery, we will also develop our motor, language, and vocal skills using songs, music, movement, and instruments. Get ready for lots of ribbity-hopping like frogs, trumpety-stomping like elephants, and oinkity-rolling like pigs in Animals a-Dancing!
We will lay the musical foundations for reading rhythms and simple melodies as we engage in musical patterns based on raindrops, thunder, lightening, and more! We will also continue to explore our bodies’ capacity for creative movement as we shine like sunbeams, dance like rain, and drift like snow in Outside My Window!
Come take a musical journey through Africa, Indonesia, and beyond without ever leaving our school! In Wild Animal Park, we’ll dance a jungle hokey pokey, sing call-and-response style like parrots, and laugh like kookaburras, enjoying a rhythmic, music-filled adventure that your child won’t soon forget. We will also explore and emulate real African animals sounds as well as learning about “Gamelan Music”, the traditional instrumental ensemble music of Indonesia which typically includes many bronze percussion instruments.
Musical dynamics (soft and loud) take center stage as we climb aboard the S.S. Pretend and set sail through an imaginary wonderland! We’ll dance the Pirate’s Treasure Dance, visit Royal Island and the castle of a king and queen, and meet a friendly dragon. All of the pretend play leads back to our musical focus, “I like to be loud and quiet.”.
The diversity of Native American culture is a colorful and expressive backdrop to explore the steady beat of music and life, learning about this unique and beautiful music and the instruments and traditions that surround it
In September the children of the Methodist Preschool will be learning about Monarch Butterfly Migration by participating in a Symbolic Butterfly Migration project with children from Canada, the United States, and Mexico. During the week of September 20th the preschool children will be creating butterflies to participate in the special project in correspondence with the real monarch’s journey south. Our paper butterflies will be sent to children in the small town in Mexico who live beside the monarch’s winter sanctuaries. The entire eastern population of North American monarch butterflies is resting in Mexico for the winter. They will protect the paper butterflies they receive from children throughout the United States and Canada for the winter months. The children in this region will send the paper butterflies back to us when the real monarch’s departure from Mexico is announced, sometime in March 2011. The symbolic butterflies will carry a special message from the Mexican students back to the children in our preschool. Throughout this experience, our curriculum will include lessons about monarch butterflies, conservation, and cooperation. Please contact the preschool if you would like to participate in the event. Everyone is welcome. 925-837-2788 Blessings, UMP Staff To learn more, Google: Symbolic Butterfly Migration

Join veteran children’s music teacher, Miss Lindsay (www.eastbaykindermusik.com), for an action-packed musical experience! Each class will focus on teaching various musical principals: learning music, tonality and singing, rhythm, beat, and tempo coupled with an abundance of movement opportunities. Classes will contain instrument play, dancing with scarves and ribbons, and listening to “real” music that provides exposure to different instruments and musical genres – jazz, classical, folk, opera, soul, rock, etc. As part of your enrollment, you will receive a link to download music and activities associated with each 4-week music session’s theme. Please note that this program is only open to current students ages 3-5!
